IAAF will soon be called World Athletics.

Up next on the global stage for Guam Track and Field Association (GTFA) is the 2020 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China. The Championships will be held from March 13-15, 2020.

GTFA, in compliance with the World Athletics Qualification System, announces the following criteria to select its athlete(s):

Athletes representing Guam at the 2020 World Athletics Indoor Championships must be registered, active members of GTFA and must meet Residency requirements.

Running Events (except the Relays)

Each Member Federation is entitled to enter up to three athletes in each event of the Championships, provided all have achieved the corresponding Entry Standard.*

Entries in running events will be determined by a combination of entry standards and performance lists.

A maximum of two athletes from any Member Federation may compete in each event.

Qualification Period:

Performances must be achieved during the qualification period of 1 January 2019 to 2 March 2020 (midnight Monaco time).

Unqualified Athletes

If no male and/or no female qualifies (whether eligible by Entry Standard or by subsequent ranking) in any event GTFA may enter one unqualified male athlete OR one unqualified female athlete in a running event (except the 800m). In exceptional cases, and as agreed by the Technical Delegates, entry of unqualified athletes in the 800m, Long Jump, Triple Jump or Shot Put may be accepted.

In order to determine the top Guam athlete (male OR female) that will fill the universality place, GTFA will use the most recent IAAF Scoring Tables to rank the athletes performances. GTFA will use the athletes’ best performance within the qualification period and determine the assigned IAAF score. The top performance score, either male or female, will be the priority selection. Entries for unqualified athletes will be submitted by 24 February 2020.
